Our Curious Twiga Intermediate Level Preschool is designed for children starting at age 3 who have completed our beginner-level preschool program and are ready for more. It sits between entry-level preschool and pre-kindergarten in our program sequence, offering a more structured and challenging curriculum while maintaining the small class sizes and individualized care and attention your child already knows. The goal is a solid educational foundation built across six named development domains, supporting your child as they move into pre-kindergarten with real skills and genuine confidence.

At 3 years old, children are ready for this step. Language expands quickly, symbolic thinking sharpens, and cooperative play opens up in new ways. The Curious Twiga Preschool meets children at that moment and builds on it deliberately. Safari Kid Redwood City is led by owner Shanu Mathur, who brings more than 20 years of experience in childhood education, customer service, and project management. As part of a global network that has served more than 35,000 children over more than 15 years, we combine proven curriculum design with the close-knit feel of a locally owned school.

Six Domains, One Curriculum

Our research-driven preschool curriculum covers six development domains, each designed to work together rather than in isolation. Here’s what your child works on in each area:

Cognitive Development

Children move beyond foundational exploratory play into numeracy, patterns, and cause-and-effect relationships. Open-ended play and artistic projects keep curiosity and imagination at the center, so structured thinking and creative thinking grow side by side.

Language & Literacy Development

Storytelling, phonics, language games, and read-alouds run through daily activities to develop early reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. Children also expand vocabulary in a foreign language and begin learning sign language, opening multiple communication pathways at a developmentally appropriate time.

Physical Development

Activities refine hand-muscle control and hand-eye coordination through purposeful tasks. Complex indoor and outdoor active play, along with yoga sequences, build strength, flexibility, coordination, and spatial awareness in ways that can support classroom focus and self-regulation.

Social & Emotional Development

Cooperative play takes center stage in a classroom where perspective-taking is practiced, not assumed. Teachers help children name and manage complex emotions and build the kindness, compassion, and empathy that make group learning work for everyone.

Health & Care Development

Children learn advanced mindfulness and breathing techniques and practice independent conflict resolution through negotiation and finding win-win solutions. These aren’t soft skills layered on top of academics. They’re part of the foundation that supports academic progress.

Our Approach to Intermediate Preschool

Our curriculum framework is the WISDOM Learning Path, a research-driven structure that guides how teachers plan, observe, and respond to each child’s development. The approach draws on Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and other respected methodologies within our proprietary curriculum. Rather than applying one philosophy rigidly, we use what the research supports and adapt it to each child.

Teachers track progress through ongoing assessments and adjust pacing and activities as your child grows. That individualized attention means the program can move with your child rather than around them. We serve families in Redwood City, Belmont, and San Carlos.
