Daycare & Preschool in Portland
Care & Learning from 3 Months Through Age 4
Children’s needs change quickly during their first years, so continuity matters. Safari Kid Cedar Mill offers an age-based pathway that begins at 3 months and continues through pre-kindergarten, helping families find a program suited to their child’s developmental stage.
Our daycare and preschool programs serve families in Portland, Cedar Mill, Beaverton, and Hillsboro. Each stage combines attentive care with opportunities to explore, communicate, move, create, and become more independent in a nurturing environment.
Call (503) 809-4447 to discuss your child’s age, our programs, and current availability.
Daycare & Preschool Programs for Every Early Stage
Our programs progress from responsive care for babies to increasingly social and structured learning experiences. Age ranges help families identify a starting point, while our developmental approach recognizes that every child follows an individual learning path.
Our age-based programs include:
- Infant care: Beginning at 3 months
- Toddler care: Beginning at 14 months and continuing through 2.5 years
- Entry-level preschool: Beginning at 3 years
- Intermediate-level preschool: Supporting continued growth during the preschool years
- Pre-kindergarten: Beginning at 4 years
This progression gives Portland-area families access to care and education through several important transitions. Children encounter activities and guidance aligned with their physical abilities, communication skills, social awareness, and readiness for new challenges.

A Whole-Child Approach to Early Learning
Our curriculum draws from Montessori methods, Reggio Emilia, and Waldorf education philosophies. These approaches inform an environment where children receive structured guidance while having room for open-ended exploration, imagination, and discovery.
Whole-child development looks beyond a single academic milestone. We address connected areas of growth through experiences that engage children’s minds, bodies, relationships, and emotions.
Our developmental approach includes:
- Physical development: Movement and experiences that engage developing physical abilities
- Cognitive development: Opportunities to investigate, think, remember, and solve problems
- Social development: Experiences involving interaction, cooperation, and participation with others
- Emotional development: Support for expression, self-awareness, and growing self-regulation
- Language development: Activities that encourage listening, communication, and early literacy
- Health and care: Attention to children’s well-being as part of their daily development
Structured activities introduce concepts and routines with clear educator guidance. Open-ended experiences give children space to make choices and approach ideas in their own ways. Together, these elements foster curiosity, creativity, confidence, and an active relationship with learning.

Stay Connected to Your Child’s Progress
Families deserve meaningful insight into their child’s experience. We use regular assessments to follow each child’s learning path and inform how our educators respond to the child’s current development and educational needs.
Digital updates keep parents connected to their child’s day. Parent-teacher meetings provide time for direct discussion, while family events strengthen the relationship between home and school. We prioritize collaboration with parents because a supportive learning community includes the people who know each child best.
Health, Safety & Educator Preparation
Health and safety measures are part of our program environment. Our educators are CPR certified and first-aid certified, providing preparation directly relevant to caring for young children.
Oregon child care requirements also establish standards for licensed centers. Depending on a center’s certification and the ages served, applicable rules cover staff-to-child ratios, staff background checks, and ongoing training. Certified child care center rules address care for infants, toddlers, preschool-aged children, and school-age children.
Families considering a Portland daycare can ask how these requirements apply to their child’s classroom and age group. A direct conversation also offers an opportunity to discuss the health procedures and daily practices that matter to your family.
