Play-Based Learning for Curious Toddlers

Toddlers learn through movement, repetition, sensory exploration, imitation, and interaction. We combine short guided experiences with open-ended play, allowing children to revisit developing skills and make age-appropriate choices.

Classroom experiences may include:

  • Sensory activities and art: Children explore textures, materials, and creative expression.
  • Imaginative play: Toddlers experiment with ideas, language, and familiar experiences through play.
  • Puzzles and games: Children practice attention, problem-solving, and persistence.
  • Books and conversations: Toddlers explore books, express wants and needs verbally, and begin basic conversations with peers.
  • Movement experiences: Children build coordination and balance through active play.

Whole Child Development During the Toddler Years

Movement, communication, relationships, emotional regulation, and self-help abilities develop together. Our Whole Child Development framework addresses Cognitive Development, Language and Literacy Development, Physical Development, Social and Emotional Development, and Health and Care Development.

Educators support large-motor movement, fine-motor practice, turn-taking, cooperative play, healthy choices, self-awareness, resilience, and confidence. Children receive attentive guidance as they practice simple routines, interact with peers, identify feelings, and take on manageable challenges.

How Our Educators Adapt Learning to Each Toddler

Our research-driven curriculum draws inspiration from Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and other respected educational methodologies. Montessori emphasizes purposeful, hands-on activity and growing independence, while Reggio Emilia values children’s curiosity, relationships, and many forms of expression.

We tailor instruction to each child’s learning style and potential. Educators use ongoing observation and assessments to refine their approach as abilities emerge rather than expecting every toddler to progress in exactly the same way.

Strong home-school connections matter during a period of rapid change. We keep families involved through regular communication and assessments, along with family events and updates through Procare and social media. These touchpoints create opportunities to discuss progress and developing needs.
