Entry-Level Preschool Near Tracy
A Thoughtful First Transition with Tembo Tots Entry-Level Preschool
Starting preschool can bring new routines, time away from caregivers, and a classroom full of peers. At our Mountain House center, Tembo Tots Entry Level Preschool focuses on the transition between home and school for children starting at 2 years. We give Tracy families a reassuring introduction to classroom routines, guided exploration, peer interaction, and age-appropriate independence.
Our early preschool program balances predictable guidance with opportunities to play, communicate, create, and make choices. Children become familiar with group experiences at their own pace, while ongoing communication keeps families connected to their progress.
Call (209) 584-3955 or contact us online to ask whether our program fits your child’s age and transition needs, learn about current availability, and arrange a visit.
Whole Child Learning Across Five Developmental Areas
Our curriculum supports the Whole Child through experiences connected to communication, movement, creativity, relationships, emotional expression, and personal care. Early academic exposure is part of the program, but it isn’t the sole focus.
Our program addresses five connected developmental areas:
- Cognitive Development: Planned and open-ended experiences invite children to make choices, recognize simple patterns, and explore cause and effect.
- Language and Literacy Development: Storytelling, phonics, language games, foreign language exposure, and sign language exposure create varied opportunities to hear and use language.
- Physical Development: Drawing, painting, small-object manipulation, indoor and outdoor active play, and simple yoga stretches engage fine and gross motor abilities.
- Social and Emotional Development: Cooperative play, turn-taking, sharing, negotiation, and conflict resolution help children learn to participate with peers.
- Health and Care Development: Conversations about emotions, mindfulness, and breathing techniques introduce ways to identify feelings and respond to them.
How Montessori & Reggio Emilia Influence Early Learning
Our approach draws from Montessori and Reggio Emilia philosophies, combining structured guidance with hands-on exploration. Children engage with materials, express ideas, and take part in experiences suited to their stage of development.
Open-ended play and artistic activities make room for curiosity, imagination, and creativity without requiring every experience to have one predetermined result. Our educators offer direction as children make choices, participate in groups, and work through social challenges.

What to Consider When Choosing Early Preschool
A child’s age is only one consideration when evaluating developmental fit. Parents can also ask how a program handles arrival, classroom transitions, emotional expression, communication, peer relationships, and growing independence.
During an enrollment conversation or visit, Tracy families can discuss how current classroom routines align with their child’s needs. This is also a useful time to ask about classroom expectations, developmental progress, family communication, and current age-group requirements.
We keep families informed through ongoing communication, regular assessments, and family events. Parents can follow their child’s classroom experience while sharing observations that may help us better understand the child at home.
Planning for the Next Preschool Stage
Our center offers Entry Level Preschool alongside Toddler, Intermediate Level Preschool, and Pre-Kindergarten programs. Families can ask how children move into later program stages as their development and learning needs change.

Readiness Includes More Than Letters and Numbers
Early preschool readiness includes more than recognizing letters, numbers, or colors. For a child beginning a first classroom experience, it also involves skills used throughout the day:
- Communicating needs and asking an adult for help
- Joining group activities and interacting with peers
